The King sago is the most popular of all the cycads because of its unique form and elegant character.   It is a tough plant, surviving temperatures in Zone 8 as low as 15oF and a wide range of light intensities from bright light indoors to shady areas in the garden.

In the garden, the King sago adds interest to any style.  Its distinct appearance compliments Oriental gardens, but it also fits easily into tropical settings because it so closely resembles a palm.

This great cycad grows at an extremely slow rate, a ten-foot tree may be hundreds of years old! This characteristic makes it the perfect choice for container and patio plantings.

Mature Height: 3 feet
USDA Hardiness Zones: 9

This cycad somewhat resembles a coarse-textured fern. It makes a good container plant, as it is slow growing and has a low habit, reaching a mature height of three feet and width of six feet.

The Cardboard Palm is not frost hardy, making it an ideal indoor plant.  In mild winter areas, this plant does well in borders and patio plantings.

The Cardboard Palm performs best in bright light with regular water, but will tolerate shade and periods of drought.  If the trunk is buried when planted, it will even survive light frosts, though the foliage may die back.
